It’s Gonna Take Some Time, This Time

I think it’s about time for a journal entry, donchatink? Thought I’d start with a nice title to this entry, from a song by The Carpenters (love Karen!).

Well, it has been a busy 2 weeks for me. After an exhausting drive from Texas to Indiana (Luci drove most of the way, of course), we finally met our destination. Dani wasn’t really that bad of a traveler. She slept most of the way, and believe me she had better sleeping ‘quarters’ than we had, and only woke up for feeding and changing. She wasn’t really that fussy either. Tips for new parents: driving is the best way to get the baby to sleep! :D

Luci and I got there Saturday morning from driving all night Friday. We were so excited that we weren’t even tired after the long drive because we wanted to catch up with everyone. It was really nice to finally meet some of my paternal grandmother’s side of the family. There was an uncle and an aunt that I only knew from old pictures (and they only knew me when I was a baby like Dani). There were some cousins that I haven’t seen in years, and cousins that I met for the first time. I must say, it’s so heartwarming to just be in the midst of family that you haven’t seen in a long time. It’s like going back to the Philippines and seeing my siblings again. Ang sarap talaga (it really feels good).

We had lunch at a park and had some games like Water Balloon Toss and there was a history game about Israel that was very informative. This was also the first time that my dad and everyone got to see my daughter since she was born. We also did a dedication for Dani, sort of a baptism but instead of water, it’s with laying of the hands. It was so touching I couldn’t help but cry, even though I tried to hide it. *sniff* *sniff*

Here’s a nice picture of Dani with a pretty flower growing in my uncle’s backyard:

My family can really be good:

And they can be crazy, too:

On Sunday, we did a family mini-concert in my uncle’s church (he’s the senior pastor there). I have pretty talented relatives, I tell you! Love it. :) They made a video of it in Windows Media format. If you want to see it, I might have to ask permission from the others if it’s okay. After the concert, more catching up with each other, getting to know one another, making lifelong new friends. Good times. :) It’s just too bad we had to leave that evening.

When we drove back, Luci drove for a while but got tired. I think our tiredness finally caught up to us, because when I took over, I was only able to drive 60 miles and I had to pull over to take a nap along with Luci. And what a nap it was: 2 hours! We finally woke back up and Luci drove the rest of the way, while I sat in the back taking care of Dani. When we got home, we definitely crashed, but it was all worth it. The reunion was definitely not to be missed! I can’t wait for the next one. :)

I’m also back at work. Nothing has really changed while I was gone, if there was some changes done, they didn’t affect what I was currently doing, which was cool. Everyone was glad that I was back. Of course, I had to show off some baby pictures. :) I also had my annual employee evaluation done and yay, I get a promotion! Thank God for blessings. :) Anyway, because of work, I have to drop off Dani at my mom’s office to have someone look after her for a few hours and then Luci can pick her up after he gets off work since he works 9 to 5 now. It’s a really good set-up because I only get to have someone look after Dani only on Mondays and Tuesdays and I get to watch her on Wednesday to Friday, then Luci watches her from Saturday to Sunday when I’m at work. Everything works out fine. I just have to keep up with it with my insomnia and all kicking in again.

I was a little bit worried about my hair falling out lately, sometimes in clumps. After searching through the web, I realized that it’s normal for hair loss 3 months after delivery, which is about where I am, and affects about 50% of women and is due to the hormonal changes that my body is going through. Whew! I thought I was going to go bald soon! As this article says, “remember this is a temporary situation and the good news is that as each hair falls out, a new one begins to grow. “ Yay!

My website is down again after another hacker infiltrated it. My fellow moderators and I have decided to take it down for a bit. I have also talked to my web host to totally clean out the files I had in there and recreate the account for me so we could start over. (And yes, backups were done before the clean up.) Hopefully, the site will be back up again in a few days’ time. I’m waiting on confirmation from my fellow colleagues on further steps we’re deciding on. The Geek Staff, you know who you are (check your email, please, and respond as needed), hehe.

Prayers are needed again as we are still in a bit of a financial slump. Being off work for a long time hasn’t helped that much either, even though I was still paid with some of my vacation pay. Just hoping there will be at least a big break where we can catch up to some of our bills. Ah, such is life!

That’s it for now. Good day to y’all.

While Things Are Quiet

While Dani’s sleeping, I sneak out for some “me” time.

I finally got my games forum up and hopefully it won’t be compromised again. It’s such a hassle when people are just out there with nothing else to do but make other people suffer. I mean, they do it for the sake of “fun”. I think that’s where the badness of the whole world starts from, and I’m just a little scared of what Dani can be up against when she grows up in this society. I just hope I can be a good enough mother to guide her in the right path and pray that she has all of God’s blessings and enough common sense to know where to go, what to do and how to do it.

Enough of that. In other, more pleasant, news, Dani’s growing very well. Her 1-month check up told us that she has gained 20% more. She also had her 2nd Hepa-B shot done. I wasn’t happy with her getting a shot, and it’ll be worse when she gets 4 more shots on her 2-month checkup. I just have to be brave. *takes a deep breath*

Luci just moved to another airline. It has better benefits and he will have set hours compared to the scattered hours he worked in his previous job. Also, he’ll be off on the weekends to spend time with the baby. So far, the transition is looking good for us.

We’re also having a bit of a financial slump. With me off-work and not getting too much pay and also trying to refinance the mortgage on our house plus taking care of baby needs, it got financially stressful for a couple of weeks. Thankfully, we’ve been able to pull ourselves up, even just temporarily until Luci’s new job becomes more stable and our mortgage closing goes through. Keep us in your prayers.

In closing, I’d like to share a rare moment of catching Dani on camera with a very mischievous grin on her face:
Take care!

Events and Movies

Last week was interesting (my last week pertains to Wed-Fri, hee).

After work on Tuesday night, I went to get Lucien from work for an hour “lunch”. After that, we came back and Lucien mentioned that they were getting a shipment of live horses going to the Philippines. He asked if I wanted to stay and see the horses off, and of course, I said yes. It wasn’t long and the horse exporters came in. I learned that the horses were going to have someone escort them to Manila.

I went to meet them, and I met Connie, the escort. She hasn’t been to the Philippines at all, so she started asking me what to expect from there. I told her some tidbits and things that she might like to do, or food she might like to eat. After conversing with her for so long, it’s so cool to know I’ve found a new friend. Lucien and I stayed with her as long as we could, but it was nearing 7am (Lucien was off the clock already and I was getting tired), so we left. I hope she had a good time.

Wednesday and Thursday were a little blurry because I don’t remember too much from these days. We did sort a few things around the house, but that’s all I can remember.

Friday, Luci and I went to do the early voting thing (my first time ever to vote for this country), and we went to see the movies:

– A Lot Like Love
– Kung Fu Hustle
– The Pacifier
– Miss Congeniality 2
– The Interpreter

They were all good, but I can’t see anything as saying which was my favorite of this bunch. I can’t believe we watched all of these movies in a row. Well, we rarely get to watch movies often, so we try to watch what we can. I’m surprised, though, that I didn’t get a headache (which I usually get when watching at least 4 movies in a row), but it was all good.

Mods and Sleepiness

I’ve been looking into some Invision Board mods for my forum, specifically RSS feeds, but I can’t seem to find a good one that works for me. I’ve also been browsing the IB company forums to find out if they have something that will help me recover accidentally deleted members, but the only solution is to restore the tables from my backup, and I don’t have a good current backup. *sigh* At least I found one that enables new users to register within the maximum username length of 15 characters. Before that, I’ve had a few members that registered with their names so long, it’s getting ridiculous.

Anyway, ’twas weird to find myself so sleepy yesterday at work. Usually, I can find ways to wake me up, but I guess I was just too tired. Even my co-worker was tired. Just weird.

On Wednesday, Lucien and I hope to go to Seminole and visit his old high school there. After we get back, hopefully we can get to Ennis to attend the Blue Bonnet Trails Festival they hold every year. That would be fun, and I’ll try to take some pictures.

I’m rambling now, so I’ll get back to work. :P

Oh, yeah, and Movies.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that it was my 4th church wedding anniversary last Thursday. Sorry.

Nothing important, though. Luci and I just hung around the house and watched movies, though Friday, we had another movie night: watched 4 movies, including Constantine. Don’t ask me how it went, because I can’t tell you if I liked it or not. The cinema I was in apparently had the audio so low, I could barely hear what the characters were talking about. Good effects, though.

Another movie, Hitch, is so cute. Luci and I were actually at the edge of the seat watching it. Of course, another moron was talking on the cell phone during one part of the movie. I wasn’t so annoyed but a few people in the back kept shushing the lady. Not that it stopped her (she kept right on talking).

Work wise, I heard the days I was off were disastrous. Someone (she) put in the wrong tapes for the wrong tape drives. Ouch. Poor someone (her). I’m just glad I wasn’t there, whew.

Getting ready to go to my home country is pretty exciting. I can’t wait to go back.

Yeah, that’s it.

Family, Technology, Trips, Work Drama

How can things go wrong in just three days? Yeah, things have happened at work while I was off. Why can’t they (she) get it right? Because she never listens. *sigh*

Things have been hectic the last few days. On Wednesday, we helped someone out by moving stuff and driving around Dallas. After that, he/she gave us some dinner. Yay. We also got our new cellular phones under Cingular, which was good. Lucien was tired of Virgin Mobile. We were able to keep our phone numbers, too, so double yay.

Thursday, we went to get a present for my sister, and then went out to eat. We had fun hanging out. Lucien took some pictures on his new phone, and J fiddled around with my phone. Mom, sis and I talked about our trip in May and made some other tour preparations. Mom also talked about the recipe our family was compiling. It’s just sad it had to end so soon.

Friday, Lucien went to the farm to hang out with his friend. The thing was, I thought that he went home early and say that his friend wasn’t at the farm at all. Well, I thought it was real when, in fact, it was all a dream. Lucien came home after therapy (he went straight there from the farm), and we took a nap. After that, we went to a friends’ house to have dinner and check out their new house. Everything was cool, until, sadly, we had to go.

That’s all I can say. I’m tired.

Rants of the Day

This is in accordance to what I had to do at work and at the-geek:

1. If I’m telling you something that’s important, LISTEN. If you don’t remember what I tell you, WRITE IT DOWN.

2. Vagueness is not tolerated. Be more specific.

3. Read the rules. Learn it. Understand it. How hard is that to do?

4. If you know what you’re doing and I’m around, don’t keep asking questions what you need to do next. I can’t hold your hand everytime.

Okay, I feel better.

I think I’ve been avoiding blogs like the plague, lately. Most times, it’s hard to find the time to sit down and write about everything that has been going on with me lately. On the other hand, I’m just lazy.

So, lately, I’ve been working weekends. I know some of you may say, “Poor Leiza. Can’t enjoy weekends anymore.” Hey, I don’t mind. Rather this than just spend 2 days off. With me working weekends, I get weekend and evening differentials added to my salary, plus 3 days off. How’s that for ‘Poor Leiza’? :)

I kinda surprised myself for not spending time on the computer the three days I was off. I did get addicted to playing on the Playstation. Lucien was the one playing Puzzle Pirates on the PC, teehee.

We did watch some movies, though. About 3 of them, and I think the best one I saw was Ice Cube’s ‘Are We There Yet?’. It’s really scary thinking what two kids can do to wreck up your car. I know I babysat one of my sister’s sons and even that one was a handful. I always ask my sister how she handles 4 kids, have a job, and still be organized at home? I hope if that happens to me, I have the same energy as she does.

That’s it for now. Later. :)

Busy, busy, busy

Yes, busy for the past 3 days. Lucien and I went to see the doc for his hand last Wednesday and he was told that he’ll have his surgery on Tuesday to get the pins taken out. It will be a day surgery, but I figured that I would take that day off just in case something happens. It also snowed that day. It started out as sleet, but then big snowflakes started to fall. It was fascinating seeing all the flakes whipping about against the wind.

Yesterday, we went to pick up the food for the family lunch today, and after that we had to do some last-minute shopping for Christmas. Wow, is Wal-Mart ever packed! Lucien just dropped me off at the curb and wait for me. So after that, we went to Lucien’s work Christmas party. Lucien hadn’t seen his co-workers in a while since his accident, so he looked really happy (he really misses work).

Today, we woke up early to get to my sisters’ for our family lunch. We were also supposed to call family at home, but we missed them by an hour and a half. My sister miscalculated the time we were supposed to call. I guess we can try again the next year. So, my family here had our Christmas early, since I had to work right after and throughout the weekend.

Next week will be pretty busy, too. Just hope everything goes out okay.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

After A Weird Night

Okay, fine, fine. Blogging time.

I went to that party last night. The day before they told us that we needed to pick up the receipt of the payment for the party, and show it at the door. Well, there goes a few hours of sleep I didn’t had because they didn’t really require us to show the receipt because no one was there! >.<

Anyways, Lucien and I were an hour late, and the party was still pretty dead. We ate pretty boring stuff, too (this is where my $30 went?!), and icky beer (which I didn’t drink, but Lucien said it was nasty), though they had pretty good tarts for dessert.

There were about 3 departments there (I.S., Radiology, and Lab). They said there was Pharmacy there, too, but I wasn’t sure. The place was big, though, so it accommodated all of us. Too bad for them, the booze ran out quickly, hehehe.

I saw some familiar faces there, but none at my department (mostly the big bosses). One of my co-workers finally showed up with his wife, but they were a couple of hours late (they had to go to a funeral).

Anyways, there were some interesting stuff going on, but can’t share it because someone might see this blog and tell. :P

I wasn’t feeling that well, like a little light-headed (I think there was something in those tarts). Added to the fact that I had a sore throat and had to shout over the music. So I just sat quietly, danced to a few songs, and went home.

To summarize, the party sucked. :P Or maybe I was too sick to really enjoy it. I would be happy to skip the party next year.

Okay, gotta go back to work.
